Wiz Khalifa Is Going to Be Very Famous Very Soon

This weekend, Vulture braved the harrowing reality of Times Square on a Saturday night to see Wiz Khalifa play a sold-out show at the 2,100-capacity Best Buy Theater. Fresh off an arrest for marijuana possession, the dude was as brazenly pro–Prop 19 as ever, tossing Wiz-branded rolling papers into the crowd and conducting informal surveys as to who else in the room was as “friiiieeeed” as him. He stayed focused, though, delivering an abundance of big sing-along choruses, dry chortles, and smiley stage energy (in this latter field he was helped by one particularly young-looking, particularly white-looking crew member who, sans microphone, bounded around the stage, reciting every single word to every single song). If his mixtape work hasn't hooked you yet, check him out live; he may just change your mind.

Not that it'll really matter if you don't: If the insanely young demographic on hand Saturday night is any indication, Khalifa has already paved his road to the mainstream. We haven't seen this many high-school kids in one place since we were actually in high school, and back then not as many of them were into mixtape rappers. Seriously, who knew suburban teen girls actively seek out rap blogs and download mixtapes these days? Yes, the chart success of his single “Black and Yellow” has something to do with it, but still there's no official upcoming album, and Wiz has already managed to lock in the youth vote — these kids weren't only at the Wiz Khalifa show, they were psyched to be at the Wiz Khalifa show. Girls wore their best mother-shaming outfits (Skins' Effy Stonem seemed to be a sartorial inspiration), and boys had gotten far enough into their illicit preshow drinking (Four Loko, perhaps?) to full-on head-down shuffle-step stumble into us. Multiple times. At one point, a female security guard actually dragged one diminutive, unresponsive freshman out of the venue by the back of his shirt. It was awesome.

Anyway, yeah: Prepare yourself now for Wiz Khalifa's imminent fame.

MTV’s Full Top 10 Hottest MC’s List

1. Eminem

2. Jay-Z

3. Kanye West

4. Drake

5. Rick Ross

6. Nicki Minaj

7. Lil Wayne

8. Waka Flocka

9. B.O.B.

10. Ludacris

We see Kanye West at the third spot, but he has only been hot for the last 2 months. Plus I wouldn’t say he has had a major hit. So I don’t see how you put him over Rick Ross, Drake and Nicki Minaj. Since Waka Flocka made the list, Gucci Mane should have made the list. What we don’t like about these lists is that they are more focused on what happen in the last few months than the entire year. Leave your thoughts below by posting a comment.

50 Cent & Soulja Boy On The Cover of XXL Magazine Nov 2010 Issue + (Behind The Scenes Video)

Erykah Badu Says Today's Hip Hop Has Turned Into "Pop Techno Cornball A** Music" Is She Right?

Turn to an urban hip hop radio station and tell me what that sound is coming out of your speakers.

According to eccentric R&B star Erykah Badu, the sound you're hearing is most likely "cornball a** music", and for the most part she is right.

Check out Erykah's take on today's hip hop, courtesy of RTNY.

"How y’all gone stand by and let our music turn into pop techno cornball ass music. We don’t own our music no more. Come to think of it, did we EVER own it? when I say own our music , I’m not talkin bout the artist I’m talkin bout the people … let me be quiet. T.I. Surprised By 11 Month Sentence, According To Attorney

On Friday T.I. pleaded for leniency before a judge but was met with little. His 11-month sentence was not the maximum term that could have been handed down but it is a lengthy bid, regardless. After the decision was handed down, Dwight Thomas, the Atlanta rapper’s attorney, spoke about his clients surprise at being sent back to prison. In comments made to Freddyo.com Thomas stated, “Of course we're disappointed in the sentencing. At the same time, it's far less than what the government asked for…Of course he's disappointed. This is not what he expected; this is not what he wants in his life at this point. The judge is giving him two weeks to self surrender.”

Earlier at the probation hearing, T.I. admitted he has drug problem and regretted that his addiction cause him to violate the terms of his probation. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the man born Clifford Harris told the judge, “I screwed up big time, and I'm sorry. I'm truly and sincerely sorry. I don't want and I don't need to use drugs anymore. I want them out of my life." CNN.com reports that Harris continued, "As I discovered in talking to my probation officer, I had many problems from my childhood. Now I am down to the disease of addiction. I need help, for me, my mother, my kids. I need the court to give me mercy. Judge, don't send me back to prison." That request was, of course, denied.

The Grand Hustle CEO’s already delayed new album, King Uncaged, was scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of 2010 but further postponement now seems likely.

Sade Rejects Jay-Z's Offer To Collaborate

The Soul legend refuses work with rappers for fear of seeming inadequate.

With all the success he’s seen in his career it’s a safe assumption that Jay-Z rarely hears the word “no.” But that’s exactly the response he received when he asked R&B legend Sade to collaborate with him. And Jigga isn’t the only rapper being denied access to the British soulstress’ talents and samples of her recorded work; she has apparently turned down many similar requests.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times Sade explained her reasons saying, “I’m too scared. They’ll find me out. It’s like The Wizard of Oz. They’ll find out there’s nothing there. As for collaborations, I’m collaborating with the band and do what we do. I see myself as a member of this band who does these songs that we write.” Though she does add that in the unlikely event that an artist does get a sample of Sade’s music cleared it likely won’t cost them much. She jokes, “When it comes to sample clearances, I’m probably the cheapest chick in the west.”

Sade and her band of the same name released Soldier of Love earlier this year to great critical and commercial acclaim, including a number one Billboard debut. They are currently touring in support of the record.

Lupe Fiasco Speaks On His Problems With Atlantic Records

Lupe said Atlantic wanted him to sign a contract that would give them 25% of anything he makes from shows or deals with other companies like Nike or whatever. (Sean’s note: That’s a 360 deal). He told them NO so they threatened him by not pushing any of his new songs on the radio or giving him money to make the videos (the I’m Beamin’ video came out of his own pocket).

Also they basically don’t like his music or the way Lupe put it ‘They think I’m whack’. So Atlantic sent him hooks they wanted him to do. He recorded them and sent them back but they didn’t like them anymore and tried to have him change the hooks like 60 different times. In the end he had enough.

Nas Explains Why His Album Isn't Coming Out

The sequel to Nas' Lost Tapes is ready to be released, but Def Jam is supposedly saying that it won't count on his deal & that they won't give him any money.

Below is an email in which Nas addresses the Top Def Jam Executives:

From: Nas

To: LA Reid, Steve Bartels, Steve Gawley, Michael Seltzer, Joseph Borrino, Chris Hicks

Subject: PUT MY SH** OUT!

Peace to all,

With all do respect to you all, Nas is NOBODY’s slave. This is not the 1800's, respect me and I will respect you.

I won’t even tap dance around in an email, I will get right into it. People connect to the Artist @ the end of the day, they don’t connect with the executives. Honestly, nobody even cares what label puts out a great record, they care about who recorded it. Yet time and time again its the executives who always stand in the way of a creative artist’s dream and aspirations. You don’t help draw the truth from my deepest and most inner soul, you don’t even do a great job @ selling it. The #1 problem with DEF JAM is pretty simple and obvious, the executives think they are the stars. You aren’t…. not even close. As a matter of fact, you wish you were, but it didn’t work out so you took a desk job. To the consumer, I COME FIRST. Stop trying to deprive them! I have a fan base that dies for my music and a RAP label that doesn’t understand RAP. Pretty f***d up situation

This isn’t the 90's though. Beefing with record labels is so 15 years ago. @ this point I just need you all to be very clear where I stand and how I feel about “my label.” I could go on twitter or hot 97 tomorrow and get 100,000 protesters @ your building but I choose to walk my own path my own way because since day one I have been my own man. I did business with Tommy Mottola and Donnie Einer, two of the most psycho dudes this business ever created. I worked well with them for one major reason.... they believed in me. The didn’t give a f*** about what any radio station or magazine said….those dudes had me.

Lost Tapes is a movement and a very important set up piece for my career as it stands. I started this over 5 years ago @ Columbia and nobody knew what it was or what it did but the label put it out as an LP and the fans went crazy for it and I single handlely built a new brand of rap albums. It’s smart and after 5 years it’s still a head of the game. This feels great and you not feeling what I’m feeling is disturbing. Don’t get in the way of my creativity. We are aligned with the stars here, this is a movement. There is a thing called KARMA that comes to haunt you when you tamper with the aligning stars. WE ARE GIVING THE PEOPLE EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANT. Stop throwing dog sh** on a MAGICAL moment.

You don’t get another Nas recording that doesn’t count against my deal...PERIOD! Keep your bullsh** $200,000.00 fund. Open the REAL budget. This is a New York pioneers ALBUM, there ain’t many of us. I am ready to drop in the 4th quarter. You don’t even have sh** coming out! Stop being your own worst enemy. Let’s get money!

-N.Jones

Def Jam also allegedly still want all of the benefits that come from releasing a Nas album.

Waka Flocka Flame Speaks On Relationship With Gucci Mane Since Gucci Ended Management Ties With Waka's Mother: ''We Dont Talk Anymore''

Earlier this year you were the victim of a shooting. How do you explain that incident to your younger fans who may be more impressionable?

Sometimes I get kids telling me about being shot and messing with guns but I tell them every time that s*** ain’t cool. Ain’t nothing cool about shooting anybody.

Your music, though, sometimes paints a different picture.

If somebody tries to take your life, you might have to take his to survive. That’s in the Bible. If a man comes at me with a sword, you defend yourself with a sword. And if he comes at you with something else, you gotta defend yourself with that… I’m not condoning any violence but I’m about reality, bro.

There was also incident that was captured on WorldStarHipHop.com where some dudes ran up on you at a video shoot.

Let me make it clear, that was some dudes trying to get free promotion. I ain’t trippin’ on that stuff anymore. I’m good, bro. There’s always a******* in life. Certain people just feel like that’s their niche. I ain’t worried about no critics. I’m only worried about what my fans think. A critic is in the category of a hater in a high position.

Your mother Debra Antney was managing both Gucci and Nicki Minaj at one point in time, but was she always supportive of your career?

My mom was always there for me. She’s a real understanding person, but it was always about tough love. You can’t get no tighter than family. But when it’s business, I’m not her son. There’s no special treatment or anything. When I wasn’t working, she wasn’t even f*****’ with me in music. [Laughs]. I had to put in work to get her attention. She told me she wasn’t putting money into a street dude. So I had to change up my plans.

Do you know why Gucci and Nicki decided to part ways with your mom?

I can say when you start getting hot, there are a lot of people that get in your ear. I call that the devil. It’ll turn you against the people that helped you. They must have just felt like they needed a change. Maybe they felt like other people can take their career somewhere else. I don't know. Just like LeBron going to the Heat. I ain’t mad, though, or got problems with anybody. Moms is good; her bills are paid.

Has the split affected your relationship with Gucci?

Yeah, all the way… All the way. I ain’t got beef or anything but it has changed.

So what’s your relationship like now?

There is none. We don’t talk anymore.

What about with Nicki?

Nicki is still my homey, though. I got her number and can call her whenever. My momma ain’t got no problems with her or anything either. Let’s make that clear.

Michael Jordon Questions Lebron James' Decision "I Never Would Have Called Larry Bird, Magic Johnson To Play Together On One Team" [Video]

Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six titles. And while he had Scottie Pippen, there is little question the Bulls were Jordan's team.

So what does Jordan, one of the best-ever in the NBA, think of LeBron James joining with All-Stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to form a super team in Miami?

"There's no way, with hindsight, I would've ever called up Larry, called up Magic and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team,'" Jordan said after playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada. "But that's ... things are different. I can't say that's a bad thing. It's an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys."

James, who played his first seven seasons with his home state Cleveland Cavaliers, was part of one of the most celebrated free agent classes in history this summer. He met with the Cavs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets.

James let the world know he was taking his talents to South Beach in an hour-long TV special on July 8.

TNT analyst Charles Barkley said James' decision may change his legacy.

"He'll never be Jordan," Barkley told 790 the Ticket in Miami earlier in the week. "This clearly takes him out of the conversation. He can win as much as he wants to.

"There would have been something honorable about staying in Cleveland and trying to win it as 'The Man' ... LeBron, if he would've in Cleveland, and if he could've got a championship there, it would have been over the top for his legacy, just one in Cleveland. No matter how many he wins in Miami, it clearly is Dwyane Wade's team."

LEBRON JAMES' NEW $50 MILLION MIAMI MANSION

LeBron James is in the midst of purchasing Heat president Pat Riley's former 20,088 square foot, 8 bedroom 11 bathroom estate at Casuarina Concourse in Coral Gables for a reported $49.5 million. The estate is reportedly the most expensive home in the Coral Gables, Fla. Think he'll be able to furnish it with a ring or two? (PHOTOS BELOW)
